Social security in Belize 2026
Social security costs 10% of insurable earnings, shared between employer and employee, with earnings counted only up to BZD 520 a week.
The ceiling caps the combined contribution at BZD 52 a week no matter how high the salary.
The employer carries the larger share of the split, which varies by wage band.
Cover spans sickness, maternity, injury, invalidity and retirement through the Social Security Board (SSB).

Notes
- At or above the ceiling, the all-in cost is BZD 52 a week combined — about BZD 2,704 a year between both parties, modest against the salary it covers.
- The current structure — 10% rate and BZD 520 ceiling — took effect on 4 April 2022 — moving from 9% on a BZD 480 ceiling — and still applies in 2026.
- There is no separate health levy from pay; social security benefits and public services cover the ground the contribution funds.
- The band split is now pinned to the official schedule: employee shares run 1.88% to 4.50% by wage band, employer 8.13% down to 5.50% — the employer always pays more.
